Staff Software Test Engineer - Carmel Valley, CA

Our client is a fast-growing medical device company developing next-generation connected insulin delivery technology. They are seeking an experienced Staff Software Test Engineer to join their pump firmware automation test team at their Carmel Valley, CA location.

About the Role:

As a Staff Software Test Engineer, you will play a critical role in shaping the quality and reliability of our client's pump firmware and companion mobile applications. You'll own test activities across the full stack, from firmware running on the device itself through to mobile app and cloud integration, combining hands-on hardware testing with automation framework development in a highly regulated environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and execute comprehensive test plans for pump firmware, covering both automated and manual methodologies, including integration and system testing between firmware and mobile apps/cloud API
• Enhance the existing automation framework and optimize automated test creation and execution
• Document defects in detail and participate in dry runs and formal runs of the product
• Collaborate closely with the development team to identify and resolve technical issues, ensuring timely delivery of high-quality software
• Attend scrums and planning meetings, providing input on test activities
• Maintain rigorous documentation and traceability from requirements and risk/hazard analysis through to test cases
• Work hands-on with hardware - breadboards, benchtop tools, and firmware flashing

What You'll Need

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field
• 10+ years of firmware testing experience, ideally within medical devices, and 15+ years overall in related fields
• Experience with integration and system testing between cloud and mobile apps
• Strong expertise in automated and manual testing methodologies
• Hands-on experience with automation frameworks such as Appium, XCUITest, or UIAutomator
• Experience with the Page Object Model pattern
• Experience testing products that communicate via Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE)
• Working knowledge of RESTful APIs and web services integration
• 10+ years' experience in a programming language such as Java
• Experience with defect tracking, requirements, and test/task management tools

Nice to Have

• Experience in a regulated software development environment
• Experience on one or more commercial firmware applications
