Job summary

EF Educational Tours in Boston is seeking a Staff Software Engineer to set architecture and technical direction across customer-facing websites, portals, and internal platforms. You’ll own performance, security, and scalability, shipping personalized experiences and leading from the front end.

You’ll mentor engineers, collaborate with product and design, and turn strategy into a technical roadmap. This hybrid role emphasizes delivering high-impact web platforms for multiple markets.

Qualifications

• 8–12+ years of software engineering experience with front-end and web platform expertise.
• Expert-level React, TypeScript, and Next.js, including SSR and caching strategies.
• Strong system design skills: APIs, data flow, distributed services, and failure modes across the full stack.
• Back-end experience with Node.js/.NET, GraphQL API design, and enterprise integrations such as Salesforce.
• Hands-on experience with AWS (Lambda, ECS), hosting/edge platforms like Vercel or Cloudflare, and IaC (Terraform or CDK).
• Security, testing strategy, and web performance at scale.
• Experience using AI coding tools in daily work; able to balance speed and quality.

Responsibilities

• Set the technical direction for the web platform and define cross-team standards (React, Next.js, TypeScript, Node.js).
• Document architecture decisions spanning multiple applications and teams.
• Design system integration with GraphQL, Salesforce, and headless CMS; manage cloud infra (AWS, Vercel, Cloudflare).
• Own performance, reliability, security, and accessibility of customer-facing sites; optimize Core Web Vitals and SEO.
• Lead modernization of legacy systems and migrations; improve testing, CI/CD, and infrastructure-as-code.
• Mentor engineers across levels and develop architectural thinking; collaborate with product and design.
