Job summary

General Motors seeks a Staff Software Engineer to lead the platform engineering for our Vehicle AI Assistant on Android Automotive OS. You will drive architectural standards, deliver robust CI and validation infrastructure, and build developer‑facing SDKs enabling GM feature teams to ship AI‑driven capabilities.

Qualifications

• Requires a BS in CS/CE or equivalent, with 8+ years in production Android app architecture.
• Strong track record as a technical lead guiding multi‑engineer teams.
• Proficiency in Kotlin and Java plus modern Android frameworks (Jetpack, Coroutines, Flow, Hilt/Dagger).
• Experience designing developer‑facing APIs, platform SDKs, or shared libraries.
• Experience implementing automated testing and CI pipelines for mobile platforms.
• Experience with client‑server architectures using streaming, gRPC, or REST.
• Solid knowledge of Android components, lifecycle, and IPC/AIDL.

Responsibilities

• Lead architecture and execution of GM’s in‑vehicle AI assistant platform on AAOS.
• Drive engineering execution for a team of software engineers and set roadmaps.
• Architect scalable interfaces and SDKs for downstream teams.
• Implement hybrid edge‑and‑cloud architecture for low latency and AI/ML services.
• Scale automated testing, CI, and validation infrastructure.
• Collaborate with AI teams to integrate model training and evaluation pipelines.
• Optimize latency, memory footprint, and responsiveness in vehicle environments.
• Design contracts using AIDL/IPC and ensure robust platform contracts.
• Bridge product management and UX to translate customer interactions into platform capabilities.
