Job summary

General Motors is seeking a Principal Software Engineer to lead the In-Vehicle AI Assistant platform, spanning Android AAOS client and cloud backend services. You will shape the architecture and drive cross-functional collaboration across Cloud AI/ML, UX, Product Management, Security, and Data Engineering to deliver a scalable, low-latency voice assistant for GM vehicles.

You will mentor senior engineers, establish high-performance APIs, and oversee testing, telemetry, and platform-wide

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.
• 12+ years of professional software development with large-scale distributed systems.
• Experience in Android client architecture and cloud microservices integration.
• Proven cross-functional technical leadership and architectural alignment.

Responsibilities

• Define and own end-to-end architecture for the In-Vehicle AI Assistant platform.
• Drive cross-functional technical strategy across Cloud AI/ML, UX, Product Security, and Data Engineering.
• Architect hybrid edge-cloud orchestration balancing latency, cost, and offline reliability.
• Establish APIs and protocols for high-performance client-server communication.
• Mentor Staff and Senior engineers across client and backend disciplines.
