Gusto is hiring a Senior Software Engineer in the Tax Engineering group to advance the end-to-end tax experience for millions of businesses. You will own the technical strategy, contribute to the broader roadmap, and partner across engineering, product, and design to deliver scalable, AI-enabled tax solutions.

You will collaborate in a hybrid setup across Denver, San Francisco, and New York, contributing to secure, maintainable platforms with a focus on payroll, taxes, and compliance.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of professional software engineering experience with expertise in React, TypeScript, and experience with Ruby on Rails, SQL or other backend languages.
• Experience in Payroll, Taxes, or Compliance domains is preferred.
• Experience in large, complex codebases and incremental improvement without breaking things.

Responsabilités

• Define and execute the technical strategy for your team’s domain in line with OKRs and contribute to the Tax Engineering roadmap.
• Design, build, and test experiences for adding/updating tax information in Gusto.
• Advocate for customers and employers to ensure accurate tax collection, calculation, and filing.
• Collaborate across Engineering, Product, Design, Data Science, Compliance, and Operations on complex problems.
• Support platforms powering multiple products and serve millions of businesses.
• Mentor engineers to create scalable, holistic solutions.
• Drive end-to-end product development from concept to launch.
• Improve productivity and happiness via design systems, components, and interfaces.
• Identify long-term investments to improve foundational systems and architecture.
• Apply AI tools regularly to reduce customer effort and improve tax workflows.
