Stripe, Inc. is seeking a Staff Software Engineer for the Startup Products team.

You will shape technical strategy, own major 0→1 initiatives from exploration through launch, and work across product surfaces, services, and integrations to create simple, trustworthy experiences for founders. You will partner with Product, Design, Legal, Data, Operations, and engineering teams across Stripe to elevate the engineering bar, de-risk complex initiatives, and drive durable partnerships.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of software engineering with ownership of large, ambiguous systems end-to-end.
• Experience defining and delivering large, ambiguous initiatives from exploration to launch.
• Strong full-stack skills, reliable backend services and polished front-end experiences.
• Ability to set technical direction and align teams without direct authority.
• Product-minded engineering judgment with focus on user value.
• Excellent communication across strategic and technical domains.

Responsibilities

• Define and drive technical strategy for Startup Products, connecting delivery to a durable vision.
• Lead large, ambiguous 0→1 initiatives from problem definition to launch and iteration.
• Design, build, and maintain polished user experiences and reliable backend services.
• Identify risks and investments early, creating incremental roadmaps to de-risk the plan.
• Coordinate with Stripe engineering teams to align roadmaps and priorities.
• Collaborate with founders to translate complex workflows into intuitive products.
• Raise engineering bar through standards, documentation, and mentoring.
• Advise leadership on opportunities and necessary investments for long-term success.
