Job summary

Stripe, Inc. is seeking a Staff Software Engineer for Startup Products to shape the technical strategy and lead major 0→1 initiatives from exploration to launch. You’ll work across product surfaces, services, APIs, data models, and integrations with Stripe's teams to create simple, trustworthy experiences for founders.

You will partner with Product, Design, Legal, Data, Operations, and Eng/teams to deliver high-impact work, mentoring others and driving long‑term engineering excellence.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of software engineering experience with end-to-end ownership of large, ambiguous systems.
• Experience defining and delivering large initiatives from exploration to launch.
• Strong full-stack skills including reliable backend services and polished UI experiences.
• Ability to guide teams with technical direction without direct authority.
• Product-minded engineering judgment focused on user value and business impact.
• Excellent written and verbal communication for strategic and technical discussions.
• High quality bar for product experience, reliability, and operations.

Responsibilities

• Define and drive technical strategy across Startup Products, linking delivery to a durable engineering vision.
• Lead large, ambiguous 0→1 initiatives from problem definition to launch and iteration.
• Design, build, and maintain polished user experiences and backend services.
• Identify risks, dependencies, and investments to de-risk the roadmap.
• Collaborate with Stripe teams to align roadmaps and priorities for shared capabilities.
• Work with founders to translate complex workflows into intuitive products.
• Raise the engineering bar through standards, docs, mentoring, and feedback.
• Advise leadership on opportunities, constraints, and required investments.
