Job summary

Jobtailor is seeking an experienced backend engineer to design and implement scalable cloud-based software architectures. You will own features from design through deployment and collaborate with product and design teams to ship high-quality APIs for web and mobile.

The role emphasizes hands-on development, testing, and documentation across the full SDLC, with a focus on security, scalability, and maintainability.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of backend software development experience.
• Experience with microservices and event-driven architectures.
• Strong Python proficiency.
• Solid relational DB knowledge (PostgreSQL).
• NoSQL experience with DynamoDB.
• AWS tech stack expertise (Lambda, SQS, SNS, EventBridge, API Gateway).
• Containerization with Docker/Kubernetes; IaC with CDK/CloudFormation or Terraform.
• APIs designed from complex business requirements; collaboration with product teams.
• Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and communication skills.
• Familiarity with Agile/Scrum methodologies.

Job description

• Contribute to the design and development of new cloud-based software architectures
• Own and deliver complete features, including design, architecture, implementation, testability, and deployment
• Provide feedback on technical designs, proposals, and code
• Analyze existing applications and databases and identify areas for improvement
• Design and contribute to APIs supporting web and mobile user experiences
• Participate across the entire software development lifecycle from concept through production release
• Collaboratively create solutions with other teams
• Troubleshoot software issues and debug a large codebase
• Develop and execute unit and integration tests
• Contribute to technical documentation to improve software asset maintainability
• Design and build scalable back-end architecture for PSA Set Registry, a consumer-facing platform for organizing, competing with, and celebrating PSA-graded collections
• Partner with product, design, and cross-functional teams within the Collectors Experience team

Requirements

• 7+ years of software engineering industry experience building backend software
• Exposure to microservices, event-driven architectures, and batch processing
• Strong proficiency in Python
• Strong fundamentals with relational databases and data modeling, including PostgreSQL
• Strong fundamentals with NoSQL databases and data modeling, including DynamoDB
• 5+ years of experience building solutions using AWS technologies such as Lambda, SQS, SNS, EventBridge, and API Gateway
• Experience with containerization and orchestration infrastructure, such as Docker, Kubernetes, and ECS
• Experience with infrastructure as code, such as CDK/CloudFormation or Terraform
• Experience collaborating with Engineering and Product teams to develop clean and extensible APIs from complex business requirements
• Strong technical, analytical, troubleshooting, and communication skills
• Ability to visualize and document processes
• Proficiency in security, documentation, and monitoring best practices
• Familiarity with Agile/Scrum methodologies
• Ability to work legally in the United States; Collectors uses e-Verify
