Job summary

GitLab Inc. is seeking a Staff Software Engineer to own backend systems for vulnerability and dependency management. You’ll design data ingestion, storage, and query patterns, with a focus on PostgreSQL and modular services beyond the monolith.

You’ll work hands-on across Ruby on Rails and newer services, potentially using Go or Rust, and shape the technical and product roadmap with product, design, and engineering partners.

Qualifications

• Strong backend experience with scalable data systems.
• Proficiency in PostgreSQL, query optimization, and data storage patterns.
• Hands-on with Ruby on Rails; experience with Go or Rust a plus.
• Ability to lead complex deliverables and mentor engineers.
• Familiarity with vulnerability management, security data, or related domains.

Responsibilities

• Lead large backend deliverables for vulnerability and dependency management.
• Design and develop data ingestion, storage, indexing, and querying systems.
• Build with Rails and PostgreSQL; contribute to services in Go or Rust.
• Guide technical decisions and help teams deliver on roadmap.
• Collaborate with product, design, frontend, and engineering partners.
