Job summary

Anthropic is seeking a Safeguards Engineer to join a small, newly established Safeguards Data team. You will own the data lifecycle for Safeguards—routing user data and safety metadata from online systems into offline storage, enabling access for downstream teams while ensuring privacy, performance, and minimal blast radius.

You will design, build, and operate the stores, pipelines, schemas, and APIs that Safeguards’ detection, evaluation, investigation, and review systems read from.

Qualifications

• Strong systems fundamentals and fault-tolerant distributed systems experience.
• Experience building platforms or internal tooling adopted by other teams.
• Led technical design across multiple engineers or teams.
• Able to learn quickly and adapt to ambiguity and new tech.
• Care about AI safety and can explain trade-offs to non-technical partners.
• Experience with privacy, retention and security controls from start.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and operate the stores, pipelines, schemas, and APIs for Safeguards data.
• Create privacy-safe interfaces for ML training/evaluation workflows with restricted access.
• Scale distributed storage, ingestion, and processing across environments.
• Collaborate with investigators, legal, privacy, and security to translate requirements.
• Participate in on-call rotation and lead incident reviews.
• Lead technical design through proposals and cross-team architectural reviews.
