Job summary

GitHub is seeking a Staff Software Engineer to provide technical leadership for the cloud infrastructure powering autonomous AI agents. You will define the technical direction, lead architecture, and build secure, scalable systems that orchestrate compute workloads, agent harnesses, and authentication for agents at GitHub scale.

You will collaborate with staff and principal engineers to translate ambitious goals into reliable platform architecture, write architecture proposals, and guide teams

Qualifications

9+ years of software engineering with production systems experience.
5+ years operating distributed backend systems with API design and ownership.
1+ years building AI/ML-powered features in production.

Responsibilities

Design, develop, test and ship scalable technical solutions across GitHub services.
Provide technical leadership, mentorship, and code reviews.
Own health and quality of systems, including on-call rotations and incidents.
Write architecture briefs and proposals; prototype new approaches.
