Job summary

Obsidian Security is seeking a Staff Software Engineer to own meaningful product and platform work across the engineering stack. This generalist role spans backend services, data flows, APIs, and production systems, with scope beyond a single team while setting technical direction aligned with company strategy.

You’ll work on systems that help customers understand activity, risk, and threats across their SaaS environments.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of software engineering experience with increasing scope and impact.
• Strong proficiency in Python, Go, TypeScript, or SQL.
• Experience designing and building backend services, APIs, and distributed systems at scale.
• Deep understanding of relational databases (Postgres) and performance tradeoffs.
• Experience with AWS or GCP and cost/reliability tradeoffs.
• Familiarity with containerization and orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes).
• Experience with streaming systems (Kafka, Redis) and event-driven architectures.
• Strong ability to communicate design decisions and tradeoffs clearly.

Responsibilities

• Own features and system architecture from problem definition through production across multiple teams.
• Design and build backend services, APIs, data processing workflows, and integrations.
• Set technical direction and architectural standards for the platform.
• Collaborate with product managers, designers, security researchers, and engineers to turn customer needs into shipped software.
• Improve performance, reliability, scalability, and observability of systems.
