Job summary

Obsidian Security is seeking a Staff Software Engineer to own meaningful product and platform work across the engineering stack, spanning backend services, data flows, APIs, and integrations. You will define technical direction and collaborate with product, design, and security teams to ship features at scale.

You’ll work on systems that help customers understand activity, risk, and threats across their SaaS environments.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of software engineering experience with increasing scope and impact.
• Proficiency in Python, Go, TypeScript, or SQL.
• Experience designing and building backend services, distributed systems, and APIs at scale.
• Deep understanding of relational databases like Postgres and performance tradeoffs.
• Cloud experience with AWS or GCP and architecture considerations.
• Familiarity with containers and orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes).
• Experience with event-driven or streaming systems (Kafka, Redis).
• Strong ability to reason about system design, performance, and security.

Responsibilities

• Own features and system architecture across multiple teams or the broader platform.
• Design and build backend services, APIs, data processing workflows, and integrations.
• Set technical direction and architectural standards for the team.
• Collaborate with product, design, security, and engineering to translate customer needs into shipped software.
• Improve performance, reliability, and observability and identify systemic risks before incidents.
• Make practical technical decisions with broad impact and communicate tradeoffs clearly.
• Raise engineering standards through code reviews and mentoring.
• Debug production issues and drive durable fixes and improvements.
• Leverage AI-powered tools while maintaining correctness, security, and maintainability.
