Job summary

Heron Power is seeking a Staff/Senior Staff Software Engineer to shape the technical direction of our software stack, from factory floor build systems to internal tools and data infrastructure.

You will write production code, design scalable services, and mentor teammates, owning ambiguous problems and delivering reliable software with minimal direction. Collaborate with hardware, manufacturing, and operations to translate real-world needs into robust platforms.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree or equivalent experience in CS/Engineering.
• 10+ years of professional software engineering, including Staff/Principal IC level.
• Deep backend and distributed systems expertise with data modeling and APIs.
• Proficiency in Go, Python, or TypeScript/JavaScript; cross-stack comfort.
• Hands-on cloud infrastructure, containers, and Kubernetes.
• Experience designing and owning CI/CD pipelines and developer tooling.
• Strong observability, security, and operational practices; secure data handling.
• Excellent written and verbal communication; able to drive decisions without authority.
• Track record leading ambiguous, cross-functional projects and mentoring others.

Responsibilities

• Define the technical direction for major platform systems across the stack.
• Write production code and set quality standards across the team.
• Own infrastructure on AWS and IaC with Terraform or Pulumi.
• Build and harden CI/CD pipelines and developer tooling.
• Design containerized apps on Kubernetes with sensible defaults.
• Define observability and reliability practices across production.
• Embed security practices and data integrity controls.
• Provide technical leadership and mentorship to engineers.
