Job summary

Heron Power, a startup in Scotts Valley, CA, seeks Software Engineer/Senior Software Engineer to build systems that run the Build platform, factory floor tooling, and data infrastructure. You will work across backend services, data pipelines, developer tooling, and deployment infrastructure.

This hands-on role involves writing production code, designing scalable systems, and, for Senior engineers, leading ambiguous projects and mentoring peers to raise engineering standards.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, or related field.
• 2+ years of professional software engineering experience for Software Engineer level, or 5+ years including ownership of production systems for Senior level.
• Experience building and operating backend services in production, with data modeling, APIs, and system design.
• Strong proficiency in one or more modern languages (Go, Python, TS/JS) and comfort across the stack.
• Hands-on experience with cloud infrastructure (AWS or equivalent) and containers; familiarity with Kubernetes.
• Experience with CI/CD pipelines and developer tooling that enable reliable shipping.
• Knowledge of observability, security, and operational best practices, monitoring, alerts, access controls, and secrets management.
• Strong written and verbal communication; ability to collaborate and drive technical decisions.
• Track record delivering end-to-end projects; seniors: leading ambiguous cross-functional projects and mentoring engineers.

Responsibilities

• Write production code and design scalable systems from early production to volume manufacturing.
• Own features and services end-to-end; seniors tackle larger, ambiguous problems and mentor others.
