Shibumi is seeking a Staff Software Engineer to provide hands-on technical leadership, design solutions, and drive complex initiatives across the platform. You will influence architecture, mentor teammates, and raise the engineering bar while delivering meaningful features.

The role emphasizes ownership, multi-stack work across Java/Spring, Rust, React/TypeScript, and cloud-native services on AWS and Kubernetes. Hybrid work in Royal Oak, MI is supported.

Qualifications

• Senior individual contributor with 6+ years of experience.
• Proven ability to own large codebases and drive initiatives end-to-end.
• Experience building production systems in Java; Spring experience is a plus.
• Comfort across backend, frontend, infrastructure, and problem-solving requirements.

Responsibilities

• Own significant areas of the platform from problem to production.
• Lead large initiatives before they reach a sprint by translating goals into execution plans.
• Tackle cross-cutting technical problems spanning services and teams.
• Raise the engineering bar through design reviews, mentoring, and code reviews.
• Help the team avoid unnecessary complexity by knowing what not to build.
