Job summary

Block, Inc. is seeking aStaff Software Engineer for the Financial Platform Acquiring team to own the card payments stack, expand direct network connections, and drive reliable, scalable processing for Square, Cash App, and Afterpay.

You will lead technical efforts, ship production features, and shape engineering standards across the acquiring platform. This hands-on role requires deep payments expertise, ISO 8583 knowledge, and experience with card networks.

Qualifications

• Deep card payments experience at the message level.
• Experience with hard cases in real card transactions (partial authorizations, reversals, tips).
• Solid software engineering for reliable payments systems.
• Ability to lead technically complex projects and set direction.

Responsibilities

• Own technical direction from design through production rollout.
• Write production code and build testing tooling.
• Analyze network messages and debug to protocol level.
• Set routing, retries, and processing cost with data.
• Mentor engineers and raise team technical capability.
