Job summary

Block, Inc. is seeking a senior software engineer to design, build, and scale customer-facing payment APIs powering Square, Cash App, and Afterpay. You will lead complex projects from design through production and help shape the team’s technical direction.

This is a hands-on role with on-call duties, maintaining high-volume systems, and applying AI-assisted tools to improve quality and delivery across the global payments platform.

Qualifications

• Experience building, maintaining, and scaling customer-facing financial/payment APIs.

• Experience designing and operating high-volume distributed systems with strong reliability.
•  
• Knowledge of idempotency, retries, and partial failure handling in payment workflows.
•  
• Proven track record leading complex engineering projects end to end.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and scale payment APIs with well-defined contracts.
