Job summary

Cloudera is seeking a Staff Engineer for the Context Search Team in California. You will lead architectural direction for high-performance, scalable search infrastructure within the CDP Data Platform, collaborating with product, data science, and engineering teams to deliver enterprise-grade search capabilities.

You will drive the technical roadmap, optimize deployments on Kubernetes, and ensure secure, observable, and reliable systems that enable data discovery and analytics at scale.

Qualifications

• 6 years of experience with OpenSearch or Elasticsearch in production environments at scale.
• Strong command of Java; Go or Python for automation and tooling.
• Experience with Kubernetes and container orchestration.
• Hands-on experience deploying search workloads on AWS/Azure/Google Cloud.

Responsibilities

• Architect large-scale OpenSearch clusters with petabytes of data.
• Integrate OpenSearch with CDP components (Iceberg, SDX, Ozone) for unified search.
• Optimize JVM, shard allocation, and query DSL for throughput and stability.
• Develop Kubernetes Operators and Helm charts for automated deployment and self-healing of search services.
• Define best practices for security (RBAC, TLS), observability, and reliability.
• Mentor engineers and contribute to open-source communities.
