Job summary

IPG Photonics is seeking a Staff Software Engineer for the Material Processing Systems Group in Fridley, MN. You will design, implement, test, and support software for IPG laser-based manufacturing systems, leading technical execution and mentoring engineers.

You will collaborate across software, electrical, mechanical, and applications teams to deliver integrated machine solutions and support field operations and customer-driven enhancements.

Qualifications

• 12+ years of professional software engineering experience.
• Experience leading technically complex software features, subsystems, or projects and mentoring engineers.
• Demonstrated history of solving complex challenges in industrial automation, CNC, robotics, or manufacturing systems.
• Advanced proficiency in Microsoft C#/.NET development.
• Experience with software for industrial automation and machine-control hardware.
• Strong understanding of software architecture, OO design, multithreading, and distributed systems.
• Experience integrating motion control systems, machine vision, and industrial hardware.
• Ability to lead multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.
• Experience with ALM tools such as Azure DevOps and Git.

Responsibilities

• Analyze requirements and specifications to develop software for laser-based material processing systems.
• Design, implement, test, and maintain complex software features within machine control architectures.
• Lead technical work for projects, translate requirements into scalable designs, and coordinate engineering work.
• Mentor junior engineers through design and code reviews and troubleshooting.
• Collaborate with electrical, mechanical, controls, and applications engineers for integrated solutions.
• Support software integration, validation, and commissioning during machine builds.
• Coordinate software deliverables from planning to machine acceptance, reporting status and risks.
• Diagnose and resolve complex system-level issues involving software, motion control, and machine vision.
