Job summary

IBM Software seeks a Staff Software Engineer 2 to join the Traffic team, building and operating the networking fabric of Confluent Cloud. The role focuses on high-performance, scalable systems across AWS, Azure, and GCP, with emphasis on networking and multi-tenancy.

You will lead a team, drive critical initiatives, and build upon open source software, delivering reliable cloud networking for a global platform. Remote-friendly across the US.

Qualifications

• 10+ years in cloud infrastructure or cloud networking.
• Strong distributed systems design fundamentals.
• Experience leading engineering teams.
• Proficiency with statically typed languages (C++, Go, Python).
• Experience with public clouds (AWS, Azure, GCP).
• Experience with Layer 7 proxies (Envoy).

Responsibilities

• Architect and build high performance network data plane.
• Drive networking, cloud infra, and multi-tenancy initiatives.
• Lead engineers to deliver production-grade implementations.
• Leverage open source and upstream communities.
• Troubleshoot across Kubernetes, microservices, containers, virtualization.
