Job summary

Helix is seeking a Staff Software Engineer to lead the Experience platform, setting technical direction and standards across the engineering organization. You will drive AI adoption, guide autonomous AI-driven workflows, and architect genomic applications focused on patients and providers.

You will collaborate with product, design, scientists, and business leaders to deliver high-impact solutions, mentor future leaders, and raise the bar on reliability and quality across Helix's engineering

Qualifications

• A strong product engineering mindset with customer/business outcomes focus.
• 10+ years of experience as a Software Engineer, with impact at scale.
• Autonomous, proactive problem solver with prior leadership exposure.
• Experience driving AI adoption in engineering workflows and safe AI code evaluation.
• Proficiency with distributed systems on cloud platforms (AWS/GCP/Azure).
• Deep full-stack expertise in back-end languages (Go/Java/Python/Scala/Rust).
• Experience developing and maintaining SPAs using React/Next.js/TypeScript/JavaScript.
• Track record of raising technical standards beyond own team.
• Adaptable to fast-paced startup environments.

Responsibilities

• Set strategic technical direction for the Experience platform and Engineering org.
• Shape AI development practices and guide AI-driven workflows.
• Direct AI agents to automate engineering tasks and manage prompt libraries.
• Design and implement genomic applications and services with a patient/provider focus.
• Lead complex projects from scoping to production with autonomy.
• Collaborate with product, design, data science, and business leaders to drive outcomes.
• Mentor engineers and raise engineering standards and reliability.
