Job summary

BuildOps is seeking a Staff Software Engineer to architect, build, and optimize our full‑stack platform spanning React frontend and Node/GraphQL backend. You’ll mentor engineers, drive technical excellence, and influence best practices across a distributed team.

You’ll own API design, database optimization, design system improvements with Material‑UI, and end‑to‑end observability, delivering scalable software for the commercial contracting industry.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of software engineering experience with full-stack JavaScript/TypeScript
• Deep React.js expertise and scalable frontend architecture experience
• Strong Node.js backend experience with GraphQL (Apollo/Relay) and REST
• SQL/database design with PostgreSQL/MySQL or similar
• Experience with CI/CD and cloud platforms (AWS/GCP/Azure)
• Docker and Kubernetes experience required
• Mentoring and coaching engineers; strong communication skills

Responsibilities

• Architect, build, and maintain the full‑stack platform (frontend React, backend Node/GraphQL)
• Lead technical decisions for performance and maintainability
• Design, Develop, and optimize APIs for frontend and third-party integrations
• Improve database design and query optimization
• Enhance UI components with Material‑UI and a cohesive design system
• Own observability: logging, monitoring, and performance analysis
• Evaluate new technologies to drive innovation across the stack
• Collaborate with QA to ship high‑quality software
• Define and enforce testing strategies using Jest and React Testing Library
• Mentor engineers, conduct design reviews, and lead cross‑team initiatives
• Communicate effectively with engineers, product managers, customers and leaders
