Job summary

Pinterest is seeking a Staff Software Engineer for the Edge Team to lead automation traffic management at the edge and shape our rate limiting platform. You will work with Envoy and multiple CDNs to deliver scalable, reliable edge solutions.

You will design and implement edge routing, traffic classification, and enforcement, writing in C++, Golang, and Python, while mentoring teammates and collaborating with CDN vendors. This role is US-based with in-office cadence.

Qualifications

• 6+ years in infrastructure, networking, or platform engineering focusing on traffic management.
• Experience with bot detection or automation traffic management is a plus.
• Proficiency in C++, Golang, or Python; experience with L7 proxies.
• Deep understanding of L3-L7 networking; debugging production issues at scale.
• Experience gathering requirements from internal users and stakeholders.
• Ability to design distributed systems and drive from concept to production.
• Demonstrated experience using AI to accelerate engineering workflows with validation.
• Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD in CS/CE or related field, or equivalent experience.

Responsibilities

• Build Edge systems with in-house code, Envoy, and multiple CDN/DNS providers.
• Drive automation traffic management for bots and crawlers at scale.
• Design request processing logic in Envoy for routing, classification, and enforcement; code in C++, Go, Python.
• Collaborate with CDN vendors and internal teams to define integration points.
• Study internal user pain points and translate findings into a roadmap.
• Mentor engineers through design reviews, pairing, and coaching.
• Use AI to accelerate prototyping, analysis, and operational tasks with validation.
• Participate in on-call for Edge systems and drive reliability improvements.
