Job summary

Rippling, based in San Francisco, seeks a Staff Software Engineer for the Documents Platform. You will define the technical vision for the next generation and lead the charter to inject AI into the product, collaborating with AI teams, product, and engineering leaders to build reliable document experiences.

This highly cross-functional, on-site role shapes architecture across Documents AI, aligning teams around a cohesive strategy and delivering scalable, secure, and user-friendly document

Qualifications

• 8+ years of software engineering experience, including leadership on complex product or platform initiatives.
• Strong product & platform instincts to translate ambiguous problems into scalable systems.
• End-to-end ownership across backend, data models, APIs, and user-facing experiences.
• Technical leadership to guide cross-functional initiatives and align teams around complex problems.
• Python experience is a plus but not required.

Responsibilities

• Set the technical vision: define long-term architecture and roadmaps for Documents Platform and AI.
• Lead the Document AI charter: deliver high-impact AI applications across document lifecycle.
• Build AI-native platform capabilities: reusable APIs, services, frameworks and primitives.
• Partner across Rippling: translate AI capabilities and customer needs into platform strategy.
• Deliver trusted AI experiences: ensure quality, security, privacy, observability, and reliability.
• Lead complex initiatives: drive cross-team programs from design to production rollout.
• Raise the engineering bar: provide leadership, mentorship, and cross-boundary patterns.
