Job summary

Rippling seeks a Staff Software Engineer for the Documents Platform to shape the technical and product direction. You will work across backend services and customer-facing surfaces, partnering with product and engineering teams to turn complex document needs into scalable platform capabilities.

You will help define architecture, guide cross-team initiatives, and ensure high-quality document experiences across Rippling’s product suite, balancing scale with usability.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of software engineering experience with leadership on complex initiatives.
• Translate ambiguous problems into scalable systems and reusable solutions.
• Able to own backend architecture, data models, APIs, and user-facing aspects.
• Lead cross-functional initiatives and align teams around challenges.
• Proficient in Python, TypeScript, and React is a plus but not required.

About The Role

Documents are embedded across nearly every part of the employee lifecycle, powering critical experiences across HR, payroll, benefits, compliance, and more. The Documents Platform team builds the shared platform behind these experiences, providing reusable capabilities for creating, generating, importing, signing, annotating, tracking, and managing documents. Rather than each product team building these capabilities independently, Documents Platform provides the common infrastructure and primitives that teams across Rippling can build on.

As a Staff Software Engineer on Documents Platform, you\'ll help define the technical and product direction of this platform as Rippling and the complexity of the use cases we support continue to grow. You\'ll work across backend services and customer-facing product surfaces, partnering closely with product and engineering teams to turn complex document needs into simple, scalable, and extensible platform capabilities. You\'ll play a key role in shaping both the architecture of the platform and the quality of document experiences across Rippling\'s product suite.

What You Will Do

• Own the Technical Roadmap: Drive architecture and technical direction for key areas of the Documents platform.


• Build Reusable Products: Create shared document capabilities that power experiences across Rippling\'s product suite.


• Design for Scale: Build extensible APIs and systems that support growing document use cases, workflows, and integrations.


• Shape the Product Experience: Work with our Product partners to deliver intuitive, end-to-end document experiences.


• Lead Across Teams: Partner with product and engineering teams, influence technical decisions, and raise the engineering bar across the platform.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of software engineering experience, including technical leadership on complex product or platform initiatives.


• Strong Product & Platform Instincts: You translate ambiguous problems into simple, scalable systems, APIs, and reusable solutions.


• End-to-End Ownership: You can operate across backend architecture, data models, APIs, and user-facing experiences.


• Technical Leadership: You lead cross-functional initiatives, influence technical direction, and align teams around complex problems.


• Strong Engineering Fundamentals: You design reliable, scalable systems and can quickly learn new technologies; Python, TypeScript, and React experience is a plus but not required.

Rippling highly values in-office collaboration. Employees living within 30 miles of an office are expected to work onsite three days a week with those living 30-49.9 miles away expected to be in the office one day a week. Employees living over 50 miles away are required to relocate within 30 miles of an office. To enhance team cohesiveness, new employees are asked to work onsite three days a week for their first six months.

A variety of factors are considered when determining someone\'s compensation–including a candidate\'s professional background, experience, and location. Final offer amounts may vary from the amounts listed below.

The pay range for this role is:

180,000 - 315,000 USD per year(US)
