Bloomberg seeks a Staff Software Engineer to lead the design and delivery of our Data Services platform focused on data governance and management.

You will drive architecture, mentor engineers, and collaborate with product and data stewards to deliver scalable, production-ready solutions across the Data Governance Services, Data Integrity Services, and related platforms.

This role requires hands-on coding, systems thinking, and a track record of building high-performance data products at scale.

Qualifications

Strong CS fundamentals in architecture and problem-solving.
7+ years in software engineering, data governance, or enterprise data architecture.
Comprehensive understanding of data governance concepts: cataloging, lineage, quality, observability, stewardship, semantic layers.

Responsibilities

Define future-state architecture patterns and engineering standards for metadata capture, lineage, data quality, observability, data contracts, and semantic modeling.
Transform data governance capabilities into production-ready software patterns, APIs, and platform workflows.
Actively write clean, optimized code, build prototypes, bootstrap modules, and validate implementations to de-risk platform updates.
Collaborate with Data Governance, Data Integrity, and Data Products teams to connect services into a cohesive platform.
Lead architectural discussions, mentor engineers, and communicate complex topics to stakeholders.
Evaluate build vs. buy options and import proven patterns from mature data organizations.
