Job summary

Plaid is seeking a Staff Software Engineer to lead the Data Governance platform. You will design scalable backend systems to delete, restrict, and track data, working across Legal, Privacy, Security and product teams.

You’ll stay hands-on while guiding multi-quarter initiatives and raise the technical bar through reviews and mentorship. You will mentor engineers, define standards for reliability and auditability, and help translate regulatory requirements into robust controls that scale with

Qualifications

• 8+ years building and operating backend distributed systems at scale.
• Experience leading the design of complex systems and cross-team initiatives.
• Strong fundamentals in data stores, consistency, and reliability.
• Ability to translate ambiguous requirements into clear technical plans for multiple stakeholders.
• Excellent written and verbal communication with non-engineering partners.

Responsibilities

• Own the technical architecture for Plaid's data-governance platform.
• Lead the design and delivery of multi-quarter, cross-team initiatives.
• Drive design reviews and set engineering standards for reliability, correctness, and auditability.
• Partner with Legal, Privacy, Security, and product-engineering teams to shape requirements.
• Mentor engineers and act as a technical point of contact for governance concerns.
