Job summary

Nu, a leading digital bank expanding its crypto product capabilities, seeks a Staff Software Engineer in Palo Alto to own and evolve product-facing crypto features. You will work hands-on with onchain data, signing and custody integrations, and smart-contract interactions, shaping customer experiences and collaborating with product, security, and business leadership.

You will lead critical design reviews, incident responses, and mentorship across the crypto team, translating complex protocols

Qualifications

Track record of Staff-level impact building customer-facing products or platforms.
Deep experience with distributed systems at scale, including transaction processing, eventual consistency, failure handling, and production operations.
Ability to translate technical understanding of protocols or infrastructure into product decisions and customer-facing features.
Production ownership of regulated or high-stakes financial movement, blockchain integrations, or adjacent money-moving infrastructure.
Experience designing security-sensitive systems using threat modeling, trust boundaries, defensive architecture, and rigorous review processes.
Comfort partnering with product and business stakeholders as a peer in shaping what gets built, not just how.
Experience leading complex production incidents and improving systems and operating practices.
Strong influence, communication, and mentorship skills, including aligning teams without reliance on reporting authority.

Responsibilities

Understand blockchain protocols deeply to guide integration and product decisions.
Build and evolve product-facing capabilities involving onchain data, transaction execution, signing and custody integrations, asset movement, and smart-contract interactions.
Partner with product and business stakeholders to define crypto experiences Nu should offer.
Integrate with core crypto team systems, owning the product and integration layer.
Design APIs and abstractions to enable fast shipping without reproducing protocol complexity.
Establish standards for reliability, observability, data integrity, and production readiness.
Lead design reviews, incident response, and root-cause analysis for owned systems.
Mentor senior engineers and raise the bar for technical and product judgment.
