Job summary

Checkfront, a leading SaaS platform for tours and activities, seeks a Staff Software Engineer to elevate reliability, performance, and feature delivery. You’ll partner with engineering, product, and customer-facing teams to plan and deliver well-scoped work, improving platform health and stability over time.

You will mentor engineers, raise the technical bar, and drive incremental debt reduction while shipping customer-facing improvements across a large, mature codebase.

Qualifications

• Extensive experience as a senior or staff software engineer on product-focused teams.
• Comfortable in large, mature, or complex codebases.
• Ability to make incremental improvements reducing risk and improving maintainability.
• Balance customer needs, business priorities, technical debt, and delivery risk.
• Commitment to reliability, performance, testability, and operational quality.
• Create technical clarity from complex systems and imperfect abstractions.
• Strong communication with engineers, product managers, and stakeholders.
• Use AI-assisted development tools with sound engineering judgment.

Responsibilities

• Provide technical leadership on maintenance, reliability, performance, and product development work.
• Partner with Product to understand requirements, clarify technical constraints, and shape implementation plans.
• Collaborate with stakeholders to understand customer pain points, production issues, and operational risks.
• Improve delivery quality through better patterns, code review, and rollout practices.
• Identify opportunities to improve testability, observability, reliability, and maintainability.
• Help the team reduce technical debt incrementally without disrupting product delivery.
• Mentor other engineers through technical guidance, pairing, and design discussions.
• Contribute to process improvements for planning, delivery, and operations.
