TAR in San Francisco is seeking a Staff Software Engineer to personally build critical software and help shape the technical direction of systems for design, construction, and operation of power campuses. You will own a core technical area, mentor engineers, and collaborate with leadership to turn ambiguous needs into concrete engineering work across simulation, design automation, and energy management.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
• Strong track record of personally building and shipping production software with depth in implementation and design.
• Experience owning important systems through development, deployment, and ongoing operation.
• Evidence of leading complex technical work across multiple systems or groups.

Responsibilities

• Personally design, implement, and operate critical software, from simulation to equipment integrations.
• Shape the technical roadmap with leadership and domain experts; manage dependencies and priorities.
• Turn ambiguous needs into concrete technical proposals with clear scope and options.
• Lead architectural decisions across connected systems, ensuring data models and interfaces stay consistent.
• Define how telemetry and commands are exchanged between equipment, with robust testing.
• Improve testing, observability, release practices, and validation to boost reliability and speed.
• Mentor engineers through design reviews and problem-solving; contribute to hiring and technical judgment.
