Job summary

TAR is building a world-class, off-grid power infrastructure for data centers, powered by renewable tech. We are seeking a Head of Hardware to own the robotics hardware organization—mechanical, electrical, and systems engineering for the robot fleet that loads piles, sets racking, and moves earth across field sites.

Based in San Francisco with field time in West Texas, you lead development from prototype to high-volume production.

Qualifications

• 10+ years hardware engineering experience; leadership at Director/Head/VP level in robotics or complex electromechanical systems.
• Proven success moving hardware from prototype to high-volume production with contract manufacturers or Tier-1 suppliers.
• Deep expertise in mechatronics, mechanical engineering, motion control, ruggedized field/system design.

Responsibilities

• Define and own hardware strategy and roadmap for TAR's construction robots.
• Lead hardware engineering across mechanical, electrical, and systems; hire and mentor the team.
• Drive hardware from prototype to reliable production; partner with manufacturing and supply chain to control cost and ensure field reliability.
• Own architecture decisions across mechanical, electrical, controls, and sensor integration for dust/heat/vibration resilience.
• Manage BOM complexity and supplier relationships to cut costs while preserving performance.
• Serve as senior hardware voice on leadership team; guide investments and deployment timing.
• Represent hardware externally to customers, partners, and investors with credible technical storytelling.
• Establish field-feedback loops so deployed lessons drive design improvements.
