Job summary

Coalition, a remote-first org, seeks a Staff Software Engineer to provide technical leadership across a complex, multi-service domain. You will translate ambiguous security challenges into clear architecture, lead design-to-production initiatives, and raise engineering standards across teams.

You will guide architectures for auth, RBAC, account lifecycles, and partner relations while mentoring engineers and driving scalable backend systems with strong testing and observability.

Qualifications

• Staff-Level Leadership with cross-team architecture experience.
• Backend fundamentals: API design, distributed systems, data modeling, production operations.
• High-stakes experience in security-sensitive domains.
• Strong communication to align stakeholders; mentor senior engineers.
• Ability to integrate AI tools into engineering workflows with safety practices.

Responsibilities

• Technical Leadership: Lead architecture and delivery across auth, authorization, and account lifecycles.
• Architecture & API Design: Define multi-service direction, API contracts, data models, migrations, rollouts.
• Cross-Functional Execution: Translate product/security requirements into clear designs; manage dependencies.
• Engineering Excellence: Build scalable backends; improve testing, observability, deployment safety, reliability.
• Mentorship: Grow engineers across teams and elevate design skills.
