Job summary

Chainguard is securing the software supply chain with Chainguard Harness, a new product that employs frontier AI agents to analyze applications and provide validated findings with fixes. You will own large parts of the Harness architecture, guiding decisions and scaling the service for more customers and environments.

As a Staff engineer you will partner with Product and Security, mentor a small senior team, and help take the product from beta to a scalable service that integrates with customer

Qualifications

• 10+ years of experience in software development
• Production services with security and data confidentiality as hard requirements
• Experience designing systems handling confidential customer data end to end
• Experience shipping in air-gapped or highly restricted environments
• Deep experience with cloud infrastructure on GCP and/or AWS, IAM, KMS, networking, Terraform
• Hands-on with virtualization and workload isolation (KVM, QEMU, Firecracker, Cloud Hypervisor, gVisor, nested virtualization, bare-metal)
• Working knowledge of applied cryptography: envelope encryption, key management and rotation, HSM/KMS-backed keys, and signing
• Proficiency with Go
• Experience with AI tooling and agentic systems is a plus
• Strong communication skills and fluent English

Responsibilities

• Own major parts of the Harness system end to end from design to operation
• Build security into the foundation with threat modeling and audits alongside Product and Security
• Make Harness reliable, observable, and production-grade while balancing scale and costs
• Engage with customers and internal teams to translate feedback into the roadmap
• Lead by example with design docs, code reviews, and mentoring to accelerate delivery without compromising security
