Job summary

Coinbase is seeking a Staff Software Engineer to anchor across eight engineering squads within the Enterprise Applications and Architecture group. You will shape the AI maturity roadmap, drive platform excellence for Tier-1 systems, and lead secure backend service design with observable, production-grade practices.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of software engineering with distributed systems experience.
• Leads high-impact initiatives from whiteboard to production across multiple teams.
• Proficient in Go and Python; API design and microservices.
• Strong knowledge of AWS, Kubernetes, Terraform and CI/CD pipelines.
• Experience with security controls, data governance in regulated settings.
• Experience with agentic AI systems, LLM orchestration, or guardrails.

Responsibilities

• Own AI maturity and developer-experience roadmap with engineering leadership.
• Lead platform excellence to improve reliability and observability for Tier-1 systems.
• Define build-vs-buy strategy for AI tooling and developer experience.
• Provide architectural coverage across distributed squads.
• Build secure, scalable backend services with full SLO ownership and incident response.
