Job summary

ID.me is seeking a Staff Software Engineer (SDE V — Developer Experience & AI Platform) to lead design and execution of our internal developer platform. You will build multi-agent workflows, LLM orchestration, and internal tooling to accelerate engineering at scale.

You will mentor engineers, establish architectural patterns, ensure AI guardrails, and collaborate with SRE, security, and core infra teams to create a high-velocity development ecosystem.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Graduate degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related technical field.
• 8 years of professional software engineering experience developing backend systems, distributed architectures, or core platform tools.
• 2 years of experience operating explicitly at a Staff or Principal engineering scope.
• Demonstrated technical leadership: mentoring 2 engineers, leading architecture reviews, or acting as primary technical lead for a multi-engineer project team.
• Strong hands-on coding skills in modern programming languages such as Java, Python, or Go.
• Deep experience in microservices architecture, RESTful web services, and event-driven architectures.

Responsibilities

• Architect AI-Augmented Developer Tools: lead building of internal developer platforms, service scaffolding, and automated CI/CD tooling for internal engineering workflows.
• Design Agentic Systems & LLM Orchestration: build multi-agent automation systems and adaptive conversational flows using LangGraph and foundation model APIs.
• Develop Workflow Abstractions: create DSLs and FSM abstractions to model and route complex multi-agent tasks.
• Manage Stateful Context: implement Near Real-Time Memory and shared session management across tools, bots, and APIs.
• Build Resilient Distributed Systems: implement HA orchestration with Redis, Kafka, and DLQ bridges.
• Establish AI Guardrails & Governance: enforce prompts, logging, safety to protect sensitive data.
• Observability & Health Monitoring: instrument microservices telemetry for internal Datadog dashboards.
• Technical Leadership & Mentorship: coach engineers, lead design reviews, set engineering standards.
• Measure & Optimize DevEx: monitor onboarding, deployment success, automation velocity.
