Shuttlebase in New York, NY seeks a Staff Software Engineer to shape the evolution engine, balancing hands-on coding with architectural leadership. You’ll design scalable, observable systems and mentor engineers while guiding engineering strategy.

You’ll own backend infra across Python, AWS, and data pipelines. You’ll collaborate with AI, product, and data science to translate business needs into resilient, high-performance software. Midtown Manhattan office culture and ownership included.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of experience designing and shipping production systems at scale.
• Strong expertise in Python, AWS, and JavaScript with backend and frontend ownership.
• Proven ability to design distributed systems (event-driven, microservices, data-heavy).
• You’ve been a technical lead or staff engineer mentoring peers and setting standards.
• Bias toward action and clarity—document and deliver.
• Deep curiosity about AI and experimentation.
• Bonus: ClickHouse, LLMs in production, or ecommerce analytics infra.

Responsibilities

• Serve as the technical backbone behind Shuttlebase’s evolution engine.
• Design scalable systems and guide engineering strategy.
• Mentor senior and mid-level engineers through reviews and design docs.
• Architect backend infra across Python, serverless AWS, and data pipelines.
• Collaborate with AI, product, and data science to translate needs into resilient systems.
• Prototype and push ideas from concept to production with balance and rigor.
