Job summary

WEX, Inc. in Seattle seeks a Staff Software Development Engineer to design, develop, and enhance agentic solutions in a cloud-native environment using industry-leading AI tools/platforms, Java, AWS, Kafka, Elasticsearch, containerization, and API-driven architectures.

This role is part of an agile, collaborative team where engineers have ownership, make meaningful technical contributions, and deliver solutions that directly impact WEX's customers and business growth.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related technical field.
• 7+ years of software engineering experience designing, developing, and supporting enterprise-scale applications.
• Proficiency with cloud platforms and infrastructure-as-code practices, plus Kafka experience.
• Strong understanding of data structures, algorithms, OO design, and system reliability.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and deliver agentic, cloud-native software solutions using Java, Kafka, Elasticsearch, and AWS.
• Contribute to architecture and design decisions for highly available and scalable systems.
• Build, test, and maintain clean, efficient backend services and RESTful APIs.
• Review code, troubleshoot complex issues, and stay current with emerging technologies.
