Job summary

Onshore is seeking a Staff Software Engineer in New York City to lead architectural direction and impactful engineering initiatives across multiple pillars. You will own durable systems and develop scalable tax- computation platforms while mentoring peers and aligning teams without direct authority.

You will influence long-term strategy, prototype critical components, and collaborate closely with founders and leadership to ensure reliable, compliant software delivery in a fast-evolving domain.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of software engineering experience at staff-level or equivalent scope.
• Designed and shipped systems that are highly available and correct across critical domains.
• Strong architectural judgment; prototyping informs strategy and code.
• Able to influence direction and align teams without direct authority; communicates well.

Responsibilities

• Define and drive the technical strategy for one pillar, including long-term architecture decisions across agent infrastructure, tax computation, and data pipelines.
• Own end-to-end technical solutions for durable agent workflows, versioned tax computation, evaluation infrastructure, and filing pipelines.
• Identify and lead infrastructure investments enabling new study types, broader entity/state coverage, and higher operator leverage.
• Make principled build-versus-buy decisions and create roadmaps balancing delivery with platform health.
• Advise founders and engineering leadership on technical trade-offs and downstream business implications.
• Multiply the team: your designs and reviews raise the quality of work shipped by others.
