Job summary

Opiniion in Lehi, Utah is seeking a Staff Software Architect to own the architectural vision of our core platform while staying hands-on. You will partner with the Staff Data Architect to shape the next generation platform, balancing live systems and future rebuilds.

You will set technical direction, drive architecture across backend and frontend, ensure scalable and secure systems, and mentor engineers through reviews and pairing.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of software development experience, including 7+ years in an architect or leadership role.
• Proven track record designing and scaling multi-tenant SaaS platforms.
• Strong knowledge of microservices, event-driven architecture, and DDD.
• Experience with cloud infrastructure (AWS/GCP/Azure) and containers (Kubernetes, Docker).
• CI/CD pipelines, infrastructure as code, and DevOps principles.
• API design across REST, GraphQL, and gRPC.
• Exposure to AI/ML architecture (LLM integration, RAG patterns) is a plus.
• Security/compliance awareness (SOC 2, zero trust, threat modeling).
• ADR and C4 modeling; excellent communication & leadership.
• Willingness to co-own technical direction with a peer architect.

Responsibilities

• Set overall technical direction and be final decision-maker on cross-cutting architecture.
• Lead architecture and system design across backend and frontend for a multi-tenant SaaS platform.
• Partner with the Staff Data Architect to roll out the new platform.
• Own critical tech decisions ensuring scalable, secure, observable systems.
• Balance current platform with the new one, deciding what to carry over or rebuild.
• Collaborate with engineering leadership and product management to align roadmaps.
• Mentor engineers through architecture reviews, docs, and pairing.
• Evaluate tools and technologies, including AI/LLM patterns.
• Drive performance, reliability, and cost-efficiency at scale.
• Shape how AI capabilities are integrated responsibly into the product.
