Job description

Staff / Senior Accountant | Tampa Bay, FL | $80,000–$100,000 + Bonus + Full Benefits

This is a genuinely distinctive accounting opportunity at a stable, well-capitalized real estate company with a strong market position: a dual-focus role split approximately 50/50 between core accounting operations and business process improvement.

On one side you will own AP, month-end close activities, reconciliations, and journal entries. On the other, you will document workflows, design tracking tools, build reconciliations where none currently exist, and partner directly with departments outside of accounting to understand how their work drives financial activity, then help make that work cleaner, faster, and better controlled.

The level, Staff or Senior, will be determined based on the candidate's experience. Work-life balance is genuinely predictable (standard business hours, no weekends), and there is a clear path to take on financial reporting responsibilities over time for the right person.

If you bring 2+ years of accounting experience, strong Excel skills, and the kind of process-improvement curiosity that leads you to build things that did not previously exist, this role offers a variety and ownership that most early-to-mid career accounting positions simply cannot match.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage full-cycle accounts payable including invoice coding, approval routing, vendor maintenance, and payment runs.
  • Prepare and post journal entries as part of the monthly close cycle; own assigned close checklist items and deliver them on schedule.
  • Prepare balance sheet account reconciliations; research and resolve reconciling items thoroughly and promptly.
  • Support audit and year-end requests with organized documentation and schedules.
  • Identify and correct errors, clean up aged balances, and surface issues proactively rather than waiting to be directed.
  • Partner closely with departments outside of accounting to understand how their work drives financial activity and identify opportunities to streamline and strengthen those connections.
  • Build process maps and written procedures for operational workflows including deposit collection and refund handling, cash receipt processing, and related tracking.
  • Design and build reconciliations and tracking tools where none currently exist.
  • This role requires you to create structure, not just work within it.
  • Pull and organize data from multiple systems to create usable, reconcilable reporting for leadership and cross-functional teams.
  • Recommend and implement process improvements and controls based on what documentation and analysis uncovers.
  • Take on special projects with scope that will often be defined along the way.
  • Comfort with ambiguity and self-direction is essential.
  • Grow into financial reporting responsibilities over time based on interest and performance.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance.
  • 2+ years of accounting experience with working knowledge of AP and the month-end close process.
  • Experience preparing journal entries and account reconciliations.
  • Strong Excel skills including the ability to work with large and unstructured data sets.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills: this role works directly with people outside of accounting and requires the ability to translate financial concepts for non-finance audiences.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently in an environment where processes are not fully defined.
  • Genuine curiosity and a process-improvement mindset.
  • You have a track record of building or documenting something that did not previously exist.
  • Preferred CPA designation or progress toward it.
  • Public accounting experience.
Why you'll love working here

A role unlike most at this level: half traditional accounting, half process building and cross-functional collaboration, with genuine variety built into every week.

A stable, well-capitalized company with a strong market position and innovative brands, the kind of organization that offers long-term career security alongside interesting work.

A newly appointed CFO leading the finance function, making this an excellent moment to join and establish yourself as a foundational contributor.

A clear path to financial reporting responsibilities over time.

This role is designed to grow with the right person.

Predictable work-life balance: standard business hours and no weekend expectations, consistently.

Competitive base salary of $80,000–$100,000 plus a discretionary bonus of 5-10% and a comprehensive benefits package.
