Job summary

REA Group is seeking a Staff Security Engineer to provide technical accountability for detection engineering within our detection platform. You will shape standards, technical direction and the capability model across data flows, detections, testing and automation, collaborating with Product, Platform and Engineering teams.

You’ll lead cross-team initiatives, build automated pipelines and playbooks, analyse security events, mentor others and contribute to purple-team exercises to improve

Qualifications

• Experience defining detection engineering architectures, patterns and standards.
• Strong understanding of cloud architectures, logging and monitoring.
• Proficiency in log analysis and scripting to investigate security events.
• Ability to build and manage data pipelines and observability tooling.
• Knowledge of attacker techniques (MITRE ATT&CK) and detection coverage.
• Familiarity with CI/CD and infrastructure-as-code practices.

Responsibilities

• Lead long-term initiatives to strengthen detection and response capabilities across teams.
• Configure and operate the detection platform, data flows, and alert enrichment.
• Define detection patterns and validate high-fidelity detections and logic.
• Build automated pipelines, tests and quality gates for detections.
• Analyze security events and perform proactive threat hunting.
• Coordinate response activities and communicate with stakeholders.
• Develop and automate response playbooks for containment.
• Contribute to purple-team exercises and security testing.
• Ensure logging and detection coverage for new systems and changes.
• Evaluate AI-assisted tools to improve detection and automation.
