TJFACT seeks a Staff Scientist - SME to join The National Nanotechnology Initiative (NNI) within the National Coordination Office of the Networking and Information Technology Research and Development (NCO NITRD) in the Washington, DC area.

Qualifications

About This Position

TJFACT is seeking to hire an experienced and highly qualified Staff Scientist - SME to join The National Nanotechnology Initiative (NNI), National Coordination Office of the Networking and Information Technology Research and Development (NCO NITRD) program in the Washington, DC area.

The NITRD National Coordination Office (NCO) provides day-to-day support to the NITRD Program, the NITRD Subcommittee, and its IWGs by providing technical staff expertise, planning, coordination, point of contact, physical and virtual meeting venues, and administrative assistance for program activities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in organizing meetings to discuss and prioritize proposals for new activities, assist in identifying relevant agencies and programs for participation, and facilitate the development of scoping documents, strategic plans, and reports to Congress, as needed.
  • Draft, edit, and produce final copy of informal updates on activities, meeting summaries, and official technical reports, and will interact with leaders and scientists from the Federal agencies involved in the specific area they support, as well as NSTC, OSTP and the Office of Management and Budget (OMB).
  • Will have the opportunity to experience the impact across many fields, disciplines, and application areas by participating in broad, high-level policy discussions and helping to manage high-visibility interagency projects.

Responsibilities may also include the following:

  • Providing technical analysis as requested by the leaders of the NNCO, NCO NITRD, Subcommittee members, and OSTP
  • Assisting in the coordination of activities in support of specific group and/or its working groups
  • Providing scientific support in organizing meetings, conference calls, workshops, and other activities
  • Maintaining awareness of interagency and individual agency activities related to the successful execution of this effort
  • Preparing reviews of the literature and summaries or analysis of meetings and/or reports as requested by Federal leaders
  • Assisting Federal leaders in maintaining close contact with representatives from across the Federal Government, encouraging and enhancing participation and interagency cooperation
  • Leading projects and teams focused on challenge topics that reflect national priorities
  • Editing and producing documents and reports to the high standards of accuracy and quality required by the NSTC. These documents should follow the appropriate format for Federal documents and the White House Style Guide
  • Monitoring scientific and industry publications to maintain awareness of developments in the respective fields
  • Researching and documenting scientific and economic impacts and accomplishments; and
  • Conducting outreach and facilitating discussions among stakeholders.

Required Qualifications

  • Extensive knowledge and understanding of specific area of expertise and of the functioning of the U.S. Government, particularly the Executive Branch.
  • High-level analytical and writing skills.
  • PhD in a scientific discipline, e.g., physics, materials science, chemistry, biology, or relevant experience.
  • Exceptional organizational and interpersonal skills and exquisite attention to detail. Demonstrated ability to work independently and in collaborative teams.
  • Extensive knowledge and understanding of Artificial Intelligence (AI), Intelligent Robotics, Autonomous Systems, and related emerging technologies, as well as the functioning of the U.S. Government, particularly the Executive Branch.
