Job summary

Uber is seeking a Staff Scientist to drive real-time rider pricing strategy and design scalable pricing algorithms for a global marketplace. You will define the scientific roadmaps, mentor junior scientists, and partner with product and engineering to deliver productionized results.

Qualifications

• Ph.D., M.S., or B.S. in economics, operations research, statistics, computer science, applied mathematics, or related quantitative fields.
• 6+ years (MS/PhD) or 8+ years (BS) of industry experience building, deploying, and scaling quantitative models in production environments.
• Deep expertise in statistical inference, advanced experimental design (e.g., switchbacks, cluster-randomized trials), and quantitative economic modeling.
• Proficiency in SQL and Python working with large-scale distributed data tools (Spark, Presto).

Responsibilities

• Define the 1-2 year scientific strategy and technical roadmap for real-time rider pricing.
• Define the scientific frameworks and pricing algorithms for global scale.
• Elevate team execution by improving system efficiency and reducing technical debt across pipelines.
• Translate data findings into strategic recommendations for Product, Engineering, and executives.
• Direct the evolution of pricing systems balancing short-term needs with long-term scalability.
• Set experimentation standards and causal inference frameworks across teams.
