Job summary

Uber is seeking a Staff Scientist to join the Rider Pricing and Incentive team in the United States. You will define the scientific strategy for measuring marketplace performance and optimizing real-time pricing systems, while guiding junior scientists and collaborating with Product and Engineering to deliver production-grade results.

You will shape the architecture, governance, and models that scale across global markets, driving experimentation standards and responsible inference to influence

Qualifications

• Ph.D., MS, or BS in Economics, Operations Research, Statistics, Computer Science, Applied Mathematics, or related quantitative fields.
• Minimum of 6+ years (MS/Ph.D.) or 8+ years (BS) of industry experience building, deploying, and scaling quantitative models in production environments.
• Deep expertise in statistical inference, advanced experimental design (e.g., switchbacks, cluster-randomized trials), and quantitative economic modeling.
• Proficiency in SQL and Python working with large-scale distributed data tools (e.g., Spark, Presto).

Responsibilities

• Define the 1-2 year scientific strategy and technical roadmap for real-time rider pricing.
• Define the scientific frameworks and next-generation pricing algorithms at global scale.
• Elevate team-wide technical execution by reducing bottlenecks across pipelines.
• Translate complex data and findings into clear strategic recommendations for senior leadership.
• Direct the evolution of pricing systems balancing short-term needs and long-term efficiency.
• Set experimentation standards and causal inference frameworks across teams.
