SmartThings is seeking a Staff Software Engineer to lead the Hub Applications team. You will be the technical owner for Rust-based hub software, shaping performance, memory usage, and reliability on resource‑constrained devices.

The role requires deep Rust expertise, collaboration with firmware, security, cloud, and product teams, and mentorship across the group. The position is hybrid, three days per week in Minneapolis, with a pay range of $139,000 to $198,000 and a 20% annual bonus target.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree and 8+ years of production software engineering experience.
• Expert-level proficiency in Rust with ownership, concurrency, and memory- efficiency.
• Strong systems programming in embedded Linux or similar environments.
• Experience designing for unreliable networks and offline operation.
• Proven ability to lead architecture reviews and cross‑functional collaboration.

Responsabilités

• Own the long‑term technical direction for Hub Applications domains.
• Lead large cross‑team projects from design through rollout.
• Architect for reliability, scale, and data synchronization between hub and cloud.
• Serve as a deep Rust expert and guide evolution of legacy C code.
• Define AI-assisted development practices and tooling.
• Collaborate with firmware, cloud, and product teams; mentor engineers.
• Participate in observability, on‑call rotations, and incident response.
