Job summary

SmartThings, Inc. is seeking a Staff Software Engineer for the Hub Platform in Minneapolis, MN. The role focuses on owning technical direction for hub platform domains and guiding complex cross-functional initiatives.

You will mentor engineers, shape AI-assisted development, and ensure reliability and security across firmware and cloud services in a hybrid onsite role three days per week.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related field.
• 8+ years of production software engineering experience at staff level.
• Strong knowledge of embedded Linux systems and boot chain validation.
• Strong knowledge of device security fundamentals: mTLS/PKI and attestation.
• Strong experience designing and operating distributed, cloud-based backends (AWS).
• Experience with software virtualization and packaging for build/deploy.
• Proven ability to lead architecture reviews and set technical direction.
• Strong cross-functional collaboration with firmware, security, product, and partner teams.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

• Lead complex cross-functional initiatives with scalable architectures.
