Job summary

Canva is seeking a Staff Engineer to own and advance the portable libraries that power mobile and web experiences. You will work across iOS, Android, and web, building fast, safe libraries in Rust and C++ and collaborating with other Staff engineers to shape the mobile platform’s technical direction.

You’ll stay hands‑on, write design docs, and ensure clear communication with frontend teams while operating in a high‑impact, fast‑paced environment.

Qualifications

• Mobile depth: production mobile software on iOS and Android, with deep platform knowledge.
• System languages: Rust and C++ as core portable libraries.
• Staff altitude: operated where problems and solutions are unknown, shaping direction.
• Cross‑platform fluency: write code that runs across multiple runtimes and ABI boundaries.
• Technical communication: write design docs for engineers to act on.
• AI fluency: used agents in real work and evaluated AI impacts.

Responsibilities

• Own portable libraries across iOS, Android, and web.
• Build fast, safe production libraries in Rust and C++.
• Collaborate with Staff engineers to set mobile platform direction.
• Stay hands‑on and influence architecture through coding.
• Communicate clearly with frontend engineers who consume libraries.
