Job summary

Epia Neuro is pioneering neural technology in Alameda, developing intent-driven systems to restore function for neurological conditions. As Staff Robotics Hardware Engineer, you’ll lead electromechanical integration from concept to clinical study readiness, working with mechanical, electrical, and controls teams.

You’ll own validation, debugging, and design-for-manufacturing, mentor junior engineers, and help shape scalable hardware architectures for wearable robotic platforms.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor-level degree required in a related engineering field.
  • 7–10 years of hardware/robotics system experience.
  • Experience leading multidisciplinary integration (mechanical, electrical, firmware, controls).
  • Strong hardware characterization and test development skills.
  • Hands-on debugging with lab instruments (O-scopes, LAs, DMMs).
  • Proficient with Linux, CLI, and Python for automation and testing.
  • Embedded firmware experience for microcontrollers and real-time systems.
  • Familiarity with sensors (IMUs, encoders, load cells, force/torque).
  • Experience with motor control loops (torque, position, velocity, impedance).
  • Excellent cross-functional communication and initiative.

Responsibilities

  • Lead architecture, integration, and validation of electromechanical systems for robotic exoskeletons.
  • Own end-to-end development of actuator modules and sensor subsystems.
  • Define benchtop and system-level validation strategies for dynamics, fidelity, and performance.
  • Lead debugging and root-cause analysis across mech, electrical, firmware, and controls.
  • Drive reliability, manufacturability, and performance improvements in prototypes and pre-production hardware.
  • Mentor junior engineers and establish engineering processes and test methodologies.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to define requirements, milestones, and validation criteria.
  • Support vendor evaluation and design tradeoffs for sensors, actuators, and tooling.
  • Contribute to scalable hardware architectures and transition plans from R&D to production.
