Job summary

Nationwide Children’s Hospital in Columbus, OH is seeking experienced registered nurses for the Cardiac Step-down Unit. Day or night shifts, 30 hours/week, with weekend rotation.

You will provide developmentally appropriate care for pediatric patients and collaborate with care teams to ensure safety and quality. Requirements include an Ohio RN license, BSN or ADN with commitment to obtain BSN within 5 years, CPR certification, and willingness to pursue required certifications (NRP, PALS, ACLS)

Job description

Overview: *Looking for Experienced RNs*

Day shift or night shift weekend option. 30 hours/week Day shift: Friday, Saturday, Sunday one week-Saturday Sunday next week. Night shift: Friday, Saturday, Sunday one week-Saturday Sunday next week. In the Cardiac Step-down Unit, we treat patients of all ages. We specialize in treating both surgically and medically, those patients with congenital heart defects. We also provide medical cardiac management for children and adolescents with heart and vasculature related disease, as well as perform heart, lung, and heart/lung transplants. 24 beds On most days, approximately 75% of our population is under the age of six months. We are looking for detail-oriented team members who can handle a fast-paced environment.

Job Description Summary

Assists patients to move rapidly, uneventfully, and as effectively as possible through their episode of care while maintaining quality and safety as a priority. Delegates, directs, oversees and provides developmentally appropriate patient care. Practices professional nursing and promotes patient advocacy in accordance with the ANA Code of Ethics for Nurses and maintains a current Ohio Nursing License.

Essential Functions
  • Provides nursing care using a Family Centered approach.
  • Assesses individualized patient needs.
  • Communicates patient care needs and priorities to assigned Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs), Patient Care Assistants (PCAs), Unit Coordinators, and Allied Health personnel.
  • Plans, implements, educates and evaluates care using Evidence-Based Practices.
  • Utilizes Therapeutic Communication while monitoring the physical, psychological, and social needs of patients and families.
  • Engages in the “workplace community” by staying aware of changes, participating in data collection or auditing, understanding Quality Improvement, and representing staff at relevant meetings and then reporting important information and updates back to staff.
  • Documents according to organizational standards, policies, and procedures.
Education Requirement

BSN or Associate degree with commitment to obtain BSN within 5 years of hire, required.

Licensure Requirement

Licensed as a Registered Nurse in the State of Ohio.

Certifications

Current CPR certification required. Must be willing to obtain and maintain NRP, PALS, ACLS, APHON or other necessary certification as determined by your manager based on business unit.
